Teaching is a significant part of my artistic practice.
My most cherished teaching project is my studio of private students, which I have maintained for over a decade. Most of my students study the piano, but in addition to the piano I teach saxophone, clarinet, flute, composition, improvisation, and music theory. I work with students of all ages and abilities (my youngest student is five years old and my oldest student is in their 70s)and I have had several students go on to become professional musicians. I get a thrill out of watching all of them develop as musicians, and I care deeply about giving each student a positive experience in music.
In addition to private teaching, I am a core member of Living Arts Collaborative, a music education nonprofit based in New York City that performs weeklong residencies in New York State public schools. I also teach multimedia composition at Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center. I have worked as a music teacher at Bard College, and I have been invited to give workshops in electronic music at Yale University and at Harvestworks.
